Testing with Qt 6.9.1
Hi everyone,
We need your help testing MuseScore Studio with a new version of the Qt (pronounced ‘cute’) framework that powers our UI (user interface) on the main desktop platforms.
We were using Qt 6.2 before, but now we’ve switched to Qt 6.9.1 in the latest nightly builds of MuseScore Studio’s master branch.
This upgrade fixes several long-standing issues that users have reported with earlier Qt versions, including:
- #11244, #25379 Fails to launch on Wayland
- #13476, #25300 Number spinners ignore keyboard input on Linux
- #22416 Right-aligned text is not properly aligned
- #23970 Crash at launch on macOS Sonoma
- #24206 Popups appear in fixed positions on Wayland
- #24232 Menus appear on wrong monitor on Windows
- #24579 Transparent UI on second monitor on Windows
- #24613 Score draggable behind Staff/part properties dialog
- #24667 Changing UI accent colour breaks Qt Widget dialogs
However, as with any software update, there’s a risk that Qt 6.9 could introduce new bugs of its own, or interact with our code in unexpected ways. For this reason, we’re not ready to fully commit to the new Qt version until it’s been thoroughly tested on many different devices and configurations.
This is where you come in!
If you have time, please download the latest nightly build for your OS and give it a try. You can run it alongside your current stable version of MuseScore Studio.
As always, if you run into any problems, please:
- Check for existing issues on GitHub.
- If you find one, upvote it 👍. Only comment if you have something meaningful to add.
- For new issues, provide a short, meaningful title that describes the specific problem.
- Playback bugs: create a minimum reproducible example and upload a screen recording (with audio) to demonstrate it.
- Engraving bugs: attach a problem score and screenshots.
- Keep comments and descriptions short.
- Use the <details> tag to hide supplementary info, like build logs.
Once we’ve got a feel for the range and scope of any new issues, and whether they can be resolved at our end, we’ll make a decision about whether to use Qt 6.9 for the upcoming MuseScore Studio 4.6 release in a few months’ time.
Thanks for your support!
